ReAct Africa Strengthens AMR Response in Rwanda by supporting the revision and costing of the Rwanda AMR National Action Plan 2.0
ReAct Africa remains committed to supporting countries in the fight against AMR by offering technical expertise and facilitating partnerships that strengthen national and regional responses. In October 2024 ReAct Africa supported the revision and costing of the Rwanda National Action Plan (NAP) using the WHO Costing and Budgeting Tool. The workshop was held in Musanze, and was organized in collaboration with the Rwanda Biomedical Centre (RBC), WHO Rwanda Country Office, and WHO AFRO, with a main objective to equip participants with the skills to develop a comprehensive and costed Rwanda AMR NAP 2.0 for the period 2025–2030.
Participants, drawn from the human health, animal health, agriculture, and environmental sectors, were trained on the use of the WHO Costing and Budgeting Tool. Deputy Director for Programs and Operations, Julian Nyamupachitu was one of the facilitators at the workshop. Through interactive sessions and group exercises, they successfully developed a fully costed NAP, which aligns resources with prioritized AMR activities and ensures actionable implementation plans. The workshop adopted a One Health approach, emphasizing multi-sectoral collaboration to address AMR comprehensively.
The main output of the workshop was the costed Rwanda AMR NAP 2.0 for 2025–2030, which is currently in the final stages of review. This comprehensive document outlines Rwanda’s AMR priorities, strategies, and financial frameworks to achieve sustainable implementation.
Beyond the workshop, Julian engaged in strategic discussions with Prof. Claude Muvunyi, Director General of RBC, and Gashegu Misbah, Director of the One Health Unit at RBC. The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration between ReAct Africa and RBC to advance AMR interventions in Rwanda, identifying key areas of partnership and synergy.
This support given to Rwanda underscores by ReAct Africa’s unwavering dedication to empowering diverse stakeholders and fostering collaborative efforts to achieve sustainable and impactful solutions to combat AMR across Africa.
